I have written a few times about my disdain for most bars when you’re living a life trying to get some wholesome nutrition. They are too full of sugar, and only sugar. Eating basically straight up dates with a little flavoring is more like a candy bar than a meal. Where is the protein?! The only one I had tried over the course of a few years was not my style, to say the least. Lucky for me, the time has come – I’ve discovered Beaver Bites.
Beaver Bites are amazing little protein packed paleo bars made by Ashely Beaver of Livin’ Paleo. Ashley is definitely someone who walks the talk. She is a CrossFit competitor and one of the athletes of the San Francisco Fire GRID League. Professional athlete? I think I want to know what she is fueling with.
The ingredients in Beaver Bites are as follows: egg white protein, almonds, dates, cinnamon, coconut, cocoa powder, almond butter.
Seeing the egg white protein shocked me a little bit, as everything other bar iteration I’ve had using it has been pretty awful. Well, Ashley somehow nailed it here to make a bar that isn’t just complete carbohydrate, adding some protein and fat for a pretty balanced representation of macronutrients.
Oh, did I mention they taste amazing? I was blown away by what had the texture of a chunk of caramel, but spice of cinnamon and cocoa powder. She nailed the taste profile here as the taste is pretty incredible.
While I still prefer real food over bars, there are too many times where I have a grueling workout with little time to cook afterwards. That’s where these bad boys come in handy. Two bars for me is pretty much exactly what I’m looking for in terms of macronutrients.
If you’ve been waiting for a paleo bar that has protein and tastes amazing, you’ve hit the jackpot.
